Dog Fouling in Solihull

Dog Fouling in Solihull

Dog mess is a public nuisance and a threat to health. If you take a dog out (on or off the lead) you must clear up its mess, even if you are not the owner. If your dog goes out on its own and makes a mess, you’re still responsible – ignorance is not an excuse.

Clear up dog mess by placing it in a bag, and put it into any litter bin. We have installed special dog litter bins in parks. Having no bags is not an excuse for failing to clear up.

Solihull Council can only remove dog fouling from council land, if it is on private land, it’s removal is the responsibility of the landowner.

If you have witnessed the dog fouling please call us on 0121 704 8000.

Report dog fouling

Solihull Council Litter Blitz crew can usually clear an area on the day it is reported.

People who are registered blind (and sometimes owners of other assistance dogs) are exempt from these rules.

Enforcing the rules

Our environmental health officers make regular patrols and respond to complaints. We usually issue fixed penalty notices for first offences (£75 to be paid within 14 days, reduced to £50 if you pay within 5). If you consistently fail to clear up after your dog, you can be fined up to £1,000.
